When struggling for survival, perseverance is the key to lifting yourself up in the face of difficulties. In his novel The Grapes of Wrath, the writer buns Steinbeck presents Ma as a central, authoritative heroine, whose position as the matriarch of the family lets her to take over control and display perseverance in her actions to lead her family through the difficult times. During the course of the novel, Ma is determined to maintain wholeness of her family and create strong bonds at bottom; her humane traits and strong spirit helped her to persevere, become a attraction and influence her and other large numbers lives. Some people run and hide, some tone of voice aside to follow, and a drive few step up and lead. In every fleck there must be an individual who would readily step forward, face the hardships as they come and sacrifice something for the good of others. Ma is brave woman who stays loyal to her moral set regardless of situation and leads everyone the same direction as her.
In order to survive the Depression turmoil and fight against unfairness and economical and societal persecution, Mas idea of collectiveness and cooperation comes into the original plan and becomes her primary focus. She is against the rebellion, unless it is collective, as people are fitted to achieve more if they work to baffleher. Therefore, Ma devotes herself to protecting the genius of the family and retaining its spirit. She understands that in their life as migrants, the family is the only thing that is valuable and valuable: All we got is the family unbroke. When the Wilsons car breaks down and Tom suggests that they reside traveling on separately, Ma refuses to allow this. She threatens to fight Pa with a jack-handle until he sees her point of view.
