In the novel Raw, by Scott Monk, there be lots of issues that relate to real life. These issues are individual responsibility, supply and powerlessness and the role of the institution. These issues are conveyed through the char practiceerisation of the protagonist, Brett Doulton. He is a troubled 16 year old subsisting in the western suburbs of Sydney. He acts tough and keeps to himself a lot. He cant keep out of trouble and is caught break of serve and entering by the pigs and sent to the farm by ratiocination of the magistrate. When he arrives at the farm he chooses to rebel and act tough by being rude, disrespectful, immature and uncooperative. Eventually he starts to accept and follow the way the whole system workings and figures that cooperating is personnel casualty to use up him further tan continuous confrontations go away and through this starts to form friendships. A some of the other techniques utilise by Monk are imagery and realism which with characterisation, he has greatly portrayed the real life issues from the novel.

During the story single of the more noticeable issues is power. The ability to exercise authority is something that Brett thinks he can do when he early arrives at the farm. however he quickly learns that this isnt the case after he takes a detour to his first class on his first day at the institution.



On this detour he gets wiped out(p) by Sam outside a classroom darn trying to pass it and gets sent inside. After failing to hark and answer a question he then gets legitimate to go Outside! after refusing to leave the first few times. So He marched outside and kept on going until he found a spot where Sam wouldnt be able to find him behind the garage. To Brett, Sam was everything he resented here. The more he tried to change him, the more Brett would resist. Brett wasnt going to follow the rules or become the mans buddy like any of the other losers.
